Home to School Transport update March 2024

We have seen a high increase in the cost of Home to School Transport in recent years. Within the current year, 2023 to 2024, the costs are forecast to exceed the budget by around £8m and further growth is envisaged for 2024 to 2025 and beyond. This update sets out the current position, “the challenge”, things in place to manage demand and cost, as well as other considerations.

Costs are a factor of:

demand - Mainstream and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
provision - fuel, mileage, places, labour, type of transport etc
